James Wright / Vancouver Giants WHL
C-L / 6-3.25, 175 / 24-Mar-1990
Skating: 60 / Skill: 50 / Sense: 45 / Compete: 40 / Tough: 35
Strengths: Projectable combination of size and skating. Good shooting touch.
Weaknesses: Has underachieved so far. Very raw. Struggles with the puck in traffic. Inconsistent physically.
Will the real James Wright please stand up? Opinion varies widely among scouts. Good speed and hands, but hasn't put it together yet. Seems to struggle with the puck unless he's got lots of space and time. Good in battles along the boards, but needs to get stronger.
Summary: Frustrating player for scouts. Looks like he should be a lot more than he has been so far. That could translate either way - going higher than expected or sliding a bit on draft day. "Not the sum of his parts" players can be dangerous to spend high picks on. Wright is one of those.
Target/Want: Have no idea where he'll go. Won't be shocked if he sneaks into the end of the first round. But also wouldn't be surprised if he slides to the third, which is where I'd consider him.
