Kevin Sundher / C / Chilliwack WHL

Kevin Sundher / Chilliwack Bruins WHL

C-L / 5-11.75, 192 / 18-Jan-92

Skating: 65 / Skill: 60 / Sense: 55 / Compete: 60 / Toughness: 55

Strengths: Good straight line speed. Competes and will throw the body around. Decent hands.

Weaknesses: Turning and stop/starts aren't real good. Doesn't handle the puck or make plays at speed very well.

This guy has some pretty nice top speed, but he struggles to use it. Has a knack for carrying the puck end-to-end, but too often those rushes end up with him circling behind the net and not generating much of a scoring chance. Good hands - nice stickhandler and has a decent shot - but only when he's slowed down.

Grades out as a 75 on pure speed, but turning and agility drop the overall skating grade. Is a little bit of a Todd Marchant kind of player who can beat defensemen but not so much goaltenders. That said, he does have some shooting touch, and can pick up garbage goals and finish chances in close.

Lots of energy and likes to play physical. Probably doesn't have the size to be that type of player in the NHL, but at least you have to give him credit for some grit, which is a must have for players of all sizes to be successful NHLers. But I have seen him give up the puck at times to avoid being hit, and that's a bit of a red flag.

Summary: This guy is a little underrated, but I still have a hard time figuring out just what he's going to be in the pros. He's got the speed and tenacity to be a pretty decent checking forward, but I like to see better defensive hockey sense for guys I project to be 3rd liners. Still there's a lot of good raw ingredients here and he could be a decent 3rd/4th round value.

Draft Day: Has been a bit underrated all year, but maybe everyone is having the same concern - what's he going to be at the next level? Probably not going to get a look before the 3rd/4th round.
