There will be no more updates on this blog, as I've accepted a position with an NHL club.
Thanks and best wishes to Kyle Woodlief, Phil Colvin, and the rest of the Red Line Report crew for putting up with me for 13 wonderful seasons.
And best of luck to all the prospects for 2011...see you at the rink.

BCHL 2010 Eligibles
Beau Bennett / RW / Penticton: Full profile
Sean Bonar / G /Penticton ('91): Average size, but plays big, confident and consistently good. Excellent play reading, good leg quickness, and capable of big saves. Very good sleeper if you can get him in the late rounds.
Daniel Carr / LW / Powell River: Very good hands and some scoring touch, but I don't much care for his size/style combination. Smallish sized but plays a power forward style - which might be hard to carry off at the next level. Good quickness and agility allows him to be elusive down low and has really good hands in close. But the fact he requested a trade from the AJHL is a concern about his character. Maybe worth a late pick.
Grayson Downing / C / Westside: Good overall hockey sense, good defensively, and has decent puck skill. But seems to play the game on cruise all the time. Doesn't do anything to bring you out of your seat. I like his hockey sense, but lack of high end skill means he's a late pick at best.
Shayne Taker / D / Cowichan Valley ('90): Lanky, late-blooming d-man has really quick feet, but an odd stride - but overall his mobility is a plus. Has some good hands and is versatile - can pass the puck well or take it himself. Had this guy in mind as a serious sleeper, but he looked so bad down the stretch and in the playoffs, that I've dialed my expectations back on him a bit. I'd still extend a camp invite, however.
Mark MacMillan / C / Alberni Valley: Lots of offensive skill and smarts, but very slight build makes it hard for him to fight through checks or do much in traffic. Besides all the creativity with the puck, does well without it, playing defense, winning faceoffs, etc. Should be a really good college player, but is a longshot pro prospect.
Sahir Gill / LW / Vernon: Didn't quite pick up where he left off when he returned to the Vipers, but did get back to his scoring ways in the playoffs. Has really soft hands and nice passing touch, but plays very soft. Has a bit of a choppy stride. Not sure I'd spend a pick.
Isaac MacLeod / D/LW / Penticton: Has some interesting natural offensive instincts for such a big guy, but stride isn't good and has slow feet.
Tim Daly / D / Langley: Has a lot of power play skill and plays bigger than his size. A bit under the radar this season and might be a worthy camp invite.
Joey Laleggia / D / Penticton: Little rearguard is a nice skater and has a knack for getting the rush started. Very small and ends up losing a lot of physical battles - easy to knock off the puck isn't good in 1-on-1 situations. Not sure there's a lot of pro potential, but should be a fantastic college player.
Luke Curadi / D /Penticton ('91): Huge guy proved he could play up a level after moving over from the Atlantic Jr league. Actually has a decent stride for size and plays with some passion. But his game is extremely raw. Could get a look as a 2nd year eligible, especially since you could control his rights for the next 4 years.
Dylan Walchuk / C / Vernon: Little guy can skate really well and has some hands, but he's tiny. Should be a good college player.

Spokane Chiefs 2010 Eligibles
Blake Gal / C: Is the closest thing to a draft prospect from the Chiefs this year, but misses my list. Has some offensive smarts, but not real elite skill level. Skating is a bit of a concern. Might go late, but a camp invite is more likely.
Brenden Kichton / D: Decent skater, decent hands, and should be a good offensive d-man for the Chiefs in the next couple of years. Not much of a pro prospect at this point.
Steve Kuhn / C: Little guy works hard and is a strong penalty killer, but I haven't seen much in the way of hands yet.
Other 2010s: T.C. Cratsenberg
2011 Outlook: Anthony Bardaro, Brady Brassart, Dominic Uher, Mitch Holmberg, Tanner Mort. A decent group of good young junior players, but no one stands out with a lot of pro protential yet. Bardaro's speed and quickness is impressive, but is small. Mort has some good raw ingredients.

Swift Current Broncos 2010 Eligibles
Justin Dowling / C (late '90): Thought this guy was worth a late pick last year, and he still might be this year. If he did better in traffic and had some grit, he'd be a pretty good prospect. But since teams would have only one year to sign him, he might be passed over again. Should get a camp invite, however.
Taylor Vause / C: Good speed and good hands, and competed a bit more regularly this season. If he hadn't slumped so badly late he might have got a late look. Still might be worth a camp invite.
Kyle Verdino / D: Injuries from serious car accident last summer hurt his development. There is some good puck skill here, but has always been a slow, lumbering skater.
Jordan Evans / D: Improved skating quite a bit and is turning into a decent junior d-man. But he's a bit soft and doesn't do enough with the puck to be terribly interesting.
Andrew Sullivan / RW: Huge, good strength, likes to drop the gloves. But I don't see much in the way of hand skill at all.
Other 2010s: Michael Hay, Andy Blanke, Brody Luhning
2011 Outlook: Reece Scarlett, Adam Lowry, Graeme Craig. NHL scouts might not have had much to get excited about on the Broncos this year, but that will change next year. Scarlett wowed the scouts in attendance at the U-17 tournament over Christmas, and has tremendous offensive ability from the blue line. He's in the top ten overall on our 2011 list. Lowry brings a great blue collar, grinding style and has the hands to be effective. Skating is his only negative, but is a solid 2nd rounder right now. Craig also has intriguing size and some puck moving ability.

Seattle Thunderbirds 2010 Eligibles
Calvin Pickard / G: Full profile
Ryan Aasman / D: Just hasn't developed. Has good feet and nice mobility, but seems to have trouble thinking the game. I don't see much chance of even a camp invite here.
Chance Lund / LW: Good amount of (very) raw talent to go along with the size, but is a long ways from putting it together. Decent speed for his size and willing to compete.
Other 2010s: Erik Fleming, Chance Lund, Mikhail Sentyurin, Brendan Rouse, Michael Salmon
2011 Outlook: Colin Jacobs, Tanner Muth, Tyler Alos, Luke Lockhart, Mitch Elliot. Jacobs is a top 75 talent, and would be higher but for sub-par skating. Muth should turn into a very good junior d-man, but I will have to wait to see if there's a pro prospect there. I like the energy and defensive smarts Alos offers, but he's going to have to put some points up next year. Lockhart is fun to watch with his speed and reckless style, but will have to produce points at his size.

Alex Petrovic / D: Full profile
Simon Witt / D: Big frame draws your notice, but the skating needs quite a bit of improvement.
Other 2010s: Turner Elson, Lane Scheidl, John Persson, Adam Kambeitz
2011 Outlook: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Colten Mayor, Cam Gorchynski. RNH is the early favorite to be the top prospect from the WHL, and is a top five overall talent. Daulton Siwak is 2012.
